Five Great Free Shopify Apps to Enhance Your Store
As I’ve previously mentioned, I’m a big fan of Shopify for building clients’ ecommerce websites. But even I have my complaints about it, and one of my biggest peeves is how hard it is to find quality apps and add-ons for smaller stores and new businesses. With over 500 apps in their store Shopify is hardly lacking in extras, but a lot of those add-ons really seemed aimed at larger businesses (translation: expensive or ultra complicated), or they are so niche in their functionality that the vast majority of stores won’t have any use for them. However, there are some fantastic apps out there if you know where to look – and now you do, because I’ve just saved you the trouble of hunting for them! And all of them are either 100% free, or at the very least offer a free pricing tier. Read on for my top five Shopify apps to take your store to the next level…
01. Dominate this whole customer service thing with Tidio's Live Chat App
You can unlock all the bells and whistles for just $24 / month, but even Tidio’s Forever Free plan will allow you to wow your customers with an ultra-professional live chat window. Studies show that live chat can help increase conversions in your store by answering any questions your customers may have, right when they are ready to buy. And of course great service is always the key to winning your customers’ loyalty. Get the app here.
02. Take email marketing to the next level with the Chimpify App
Mailchimp has long been an industry leader when it comes to email marketing, and you can integrate it into your Shopify store in moments with their handy app. Not only does it make collecting your customers email addresses a cinch, but you can also use some of Mailchimp’s advanced features to set up automated email retargeting and more. Want to reward returning customers, or send recommendations based on a particular purchase? Now you can.
03. A/B Test Like a Pro With the Experimentor App
Experimentor is a recent discovery of mine, but it solves a super common problem for my clients: A/B testing. Because Shopify’s checkout is hosted on a different domain from the rest of your website, this can cause problems when trying to use third party A/B testing tools. Experimentor solves all that and makes setting up design and content tests in your store a breeze – advanced customisations will still require a developer (feel free to get in touch if you need assistance!) but you can run some simple tests like changing your Calls-To-Action very easily by yourself. Check it out here.
04. Start your loyalty program with Sweet Tooth
Loyalty programs can be a fantastic way to grow your business, but it can take some trial and error before you find the perfect balance of rewards and incentives to make yours take off. Happily, with Sweet Tooth you don’t need to worry about all the technical challenges that can be involved in this process; just follow their handy instructions and you’re ready to begin converting your customers into your biggest brand advocates. Sweet Tooth is free for up to 500 members; after that pricing starts at $59 / month.
05. Rake in those reviews with Shopify's Product Reviews App
Around 8 out of every 10 customers read online reviews before they make a decision to buy (and if they are anything like me, that means those 8 customers are reading every review they can find!) That’s why enabling product reviews in your store can make such a big difference to your sales – it’s basically another form of word-of-mouth advertising, which we all know to be one of the most effective forms of marketing there is. The Shopify Product Reviews app makes adding this functionality to your store a cinch, so you can begin collecting customer feedback right away.
